Sometimes in life, we all need a break and a change of scenery. That's why one of the best things you can do for yourself is to travel. While it might seem daunting to travel to a different country, (I definitely have my fears but I'm looking to overcome them this year) the truth is that with some good preparation and a plan you will be experiencing new things and leaving the troubles of home behind you for a while. A pause from life to have a holiday is good for you, so let’s take a look at some choice destinations.
Italy
There isn’t a person out there that hasn’t at one point in their life considered a trip to somewhere in Italy. One of the main reasons for that is Italian culture has penetrated so many other places around the world from fashion to pizza and beyond. So where are some of the places you can travel to? Well, first and foremost you should consider the capital of Italy, Rome. One of the most visited places in the world, Rome has history on every corner and beauty to match it.
A visit to the Colosseum will take you back to the gladiatorial days of the Roman empire, and be sure to take a tour so that you can learn the history of this incredible monument to the history of Italy. For a complete tour of the city you might want to consider a private hire company like wheretorome.com or a hop on hop off bus. Finally don’t be shy about taking a day trip outside of the city walls down to the coast via the train to places like Sperlonga, where the sea awaits you off the golden beaches.
Rome is not the only place to visit in Italy, though it is often the most popular. Italy has some of the most beautiful places in the world to offer you including Venice, 100 small islands making one incredible destination, and Milan, home of fashion week and sporting royalty.

Spain
Sticking with Europe, we are going to head west from Italy to Spain. Similar to Italy, this once great power of the world has some of the most stunning coastlines and interesting cultural centres that you are ever likely to come across, and that’s before we even start to mention the local cuisine. Much like Italy, Spain has many regions that are worth your time from the capital Madrid, down to the Andalusian capital of Sevilla and up to the Basque country with Bilbao. But we are going to focus on Catalunya’s pride and joy, Barcelona.
If you are looking for a trip that has a little bit of everything, then Barcelona is the place for you. A bustling city with the beach just a few minutes from its centre, there really is something for everyone in Barcelona. For the cultural traveller, you can revel in the works of Gaudi who resided in this part of the world. His last great work, La Sagrada Familia, is still under construction and an audio tour will reveal the ideas of this great artist. You can see more of his work by taking a trip to the Gaudi Park which has demonstrations of his pastel coloured architecture overlooking the city.
Whatever you choose to do in Barcelona, from a visit to the Camp Nou to a trip down La Rambla, make sure you have some paella and tapas to get the full Spanish experience.
Happy Travels! I'd love to hear of any holidays you are planning this year! Let me know in the comments :)
