Today I am going to be sharing a knitting pattern that I put together for my friend Delilah.
I have recently taught her how to knit and I wanted to make a pattern that was super easy and only consisted of the most basic stitches so that she could follow it as a beginner.
This pattern will not teach you how to knit, so if you have never tried knitting before I would highly recommend Youtube tutorials! That's how I got started.
But if you know the basics then this should work for you!
You will need:
100g of chunky wool in any colour. (Be careful not to get this confused with super chunky).
12mm knitting needles. (10mm if you would like to make a tighter knit one for a child)
A pom pom maker, or some cardboard. (You can choose to make the hat without the pom-pom).
Scissors.
Definitions:
K - Knit
P - Purl
K2tog - Knit 2 together
P2tog - Purl 2 together
Pattern:
Firstly cast on 38 stitches.
Row 1- K all stitches.
Row 2 - P all stitches.
Row 3 - K all stitches.
Row 4 - P all stitches.
Row 5 - K all stitches.
Row 6 - P all stitches.
Row 7 - K all stitches.
Row 8 - P all stitches.
Row 9 - K all stitches.
Row 10 - P all stitches.
Row 11 - K all stitches.
Row 12 - P all stitches.
Row 13 - K all stitches.
Row 14 - P all stitches.
Row 15 - K all stitches.
Row 16 - P all stitches.
Row 17 - K all stitches.
Row 18 - P2 (P2tog, P2) to end.
Row 19 - K all stitches.
Row 20 - P all stitches.
Row 21 - K all stitches.
Row 22 - P all stitches.
Row 23 - K all stitches.
Row 24 - P all stitches.
Row 25 - K all stitches.
Row 26 - P2tog, (P1, P2tog) to end.
Cast off Purlwise and leave a big enough strand of wool to stitch the hat together.
Using the wool remaining mattress stitch the seam.
Once your hat has been stitched up then you can decide whether you would like to keep it that way or add the pom pom.
If you opt for a pom pom use a pom pom maker (highly recommend!) or simply watch a tutorial on how to make one with card or a fork!
I hope this pattern was easy to follow! This is my first time creating a pattern and I am still learning myself. If any parts confuse you, please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will happily explain it to you!
You have a lovely blog. :-) Great post! My Mum likes knitting and she tried to get me into it too. I found it quite challenging but maybe I’ll retry as it seems so therapeutic once you have a rhythm. I never thought to check out YouTube tutorials, thanks for the tip. I’ll keep a look out for your posts in the future too! Take care. :-) xx
